New Graduates, your career in health starts here!

Advanced Choice of Employment (ACE)

The ACE scheme was developed to simplify the application process for new graduates wanting to apply for their first positions within the New Zealand. It simplifies the recruitment process for graduates by using a centralised match process which simultaneously considers the applicants work place (District) preference as well as the District's preference of applicants.

It is beneficial for applicants as they only need to apply once to ACE for any position within the Districts and are placed only into positions with Districts that they have expressed their interest in joining.

It is beneficial for the Districts as they see applications only from those graduates who have expressed interest in joining them.

After matching each applicant's preferences against each District's preference of employees, because the ACE system ensures that each successful applicant receives only 1 offer of employment, as each position in each District is filled, these applicants are removed from the list of available candidates, opening up positions for other applicants, simultaneously in all Districts across the country.

Currently we have 2 graduate programmes running - check out the below information.

Graduate Doctors

The Advanced Choice of Employment (ACE) programme facilitates the application and recruitment process for final year Australian and New Zealand medical students applying for their first year House Officer position. This process is coordinated on behalf of the District employers across New Zealand that employ first year House Officers.

Since its inception, ACE has assisted hundreds of Australian and New Zealand medical students to obtain their first position in a District employer across New Zealand. Applying via ACE is the most successful way of gaining a first year House Officer position commencing in November of the training year.
Can't start in November? ACE accepts applications from graduates who aren't able to commence at the start of the training year! Simply indicate within your application and cover letters that you are unable to commence on time and the date that you are able to commence. Employers will then consider your application alongside other applicants.

Nursing Graduates

The Advanced Choice of Employment (ACE) programme facilitates the application and recruitment process for new graduate nurses applying for a position on a New Entry to Practice (NETP) or Nurse Entry to Specialist Practice (NESP) programme. ACE coordinates this process on behalf of employers for positions within any of the Districts across New Zealand and Southern Cross Hospitals.

Since its inception, ACE has assisted thousands of new graduates to obtain a NETP or NESP position with employers across New Zealand. Applying via ACE is the only way to apply for a position on a funded NETP or NESP position across New Zealand.

Don't forget that in addition to the 20 Districts, Southern Cross Hospitals are also an agreed employer and will recruit to fill NETP positions via Nursing ACE. Applicants will therefore have the opportunity to preference up to three of Southern Cross Hospital's five regions as part of their application (for more information check out the FAQ section of the ACE website).
