About us:
The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic delivers a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.
Mason Clinic Kauri unit is a 15 bed male only, acute inpatient assessment and treatment facility for people with mental illness. Admission are referred from the Corrections Department, Courts and at times from the General Mental Health. These groups have either gone through or are going through the Justice System and have presented with physical, verbal or sexual violence towards others.
About the team:
Kauri unit is a medium secure unit. The team includes a diverse group of people who work with our society’s most vulnerable individuals. We focus on providing an environment that helps individuals in their early days of treatment and recovery journey. There are ongoing nursing, psychological and occupational therapies providing support on a 1:1 basis or in group therapies.
About the role:
In this role, you will provide nursing care of the highest quality in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand scope of practice (Registered Nurse) and the WDHB Professional Development and Recognition Plan – level 2, competent registered nurse.

Requirements:
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- With scope to work in a mental health setting
- 2+ years of Mental Health Nursing experience
- Current PDRP minimum Level 2 – competent healthcare portfolio
- Full NZ driver’s licence
- A strong commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and ensuring equitable outcomes for all
- Ability to be a positive role model to others with a good sense of humour and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- You work within an ethical framework with strong boundaries.
