Sterile Technician

Location: Hutt Hospital, Lower Hutt
Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.5 FTE (Rostered and Rotating and Occasional Weekends)
Salary: PSA Allied health Scientific and technical SECA step 1 -4 ($65,847 to $75,471) dependent upon qualifications and experience in sterilising technology.

About the Role
The sterile sciences department are seeking to appoint a trainee or qualified sterile technician to work in our busy sterile reprocessing unit at Hutt Hospital. This is a part time 0.5 FTE /40 hours per fortnight role. The successful applicant will be required to work rostered and rotating shifts with occasional weekends as rostered.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Sterile sciences department (SSD) is based in the perioperative unit at Hutt Hospital. SSD are a team of highly skilled sterile technicians who are proud of the work that they do to. The focus of the work is presenting reprocessed reusable medical devices for use in our operating theatres for patients undergoing elective and acute surgery and endoscopic procedures. Sterile technicians are a professional group who are members of the Allied Health Scientific and Technical workforce at Hutt Valley.
The SSD operates seven days per week from 07.00am to 23.00pm.
About you
All applicants require a good level of physical fitness as some heavy lifting is involved in the role.
Qualified Sterile Technician
- Hold Level 4 Certificate in Sterilising technology (level3 prior to 2019)
- Be a graduate member of the NZSSA and have a current registered portfolio with the NZSSA
- Have a current portfolio registered with the professional body NZSSA.
- Computer literate as required to operate TDOC tracking system
Trainee Sterile technician
- Ideally hold NCEA level 3 in Biology
- Previous experience in Health or can clearly articulate their interest in this role
- It is a requirement of a trainee role that they complete and pass the level 4 certificate in sterilising technology within 30 months of commencement of employment. This undertaken via distance learning and fees are included by employer.
