Charge Nurse Manager - Ophthalmology Outpatients

- 1.0FTE (40 hours a week), Fixed Term till December 2025

About the Role
The Canterbury Eye Service has an exciting leadership opportunity
available for a senior nurse to join our cohesive, supportive team, and lead
the team in our Ophthalmology Outpatients department, as their Charge Nurse
Manager.
You will be responsible for the day to day running of the Ophthalmology Outpatient
Dept, working in collaboration with the Service Manager and other team leaders,
your interpersonal and organisational skills will be used to provide sound
leadership to the Registered/Enrolled Nurses and Health Care Assistants. You
will have a strong focus on quality patient care and be skilled at allocation
of resources to achieve this.
Your ability to work effectively with the Christchurch Outpatients Nurse
Manager and Senior Management team to ensure financial and operational
objectives are carried out in line with the Health New Zealand vision is
imperative to your success in this role.
About the Service
The Ophthalmology Outpatient Dept is a very busy and demanding service that is staffed by a dedicated team of Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists and Technicians who work closely with our highly skilled and specialised Ophthalmologists to meet the eye health needs of the people of Canterbury.
About You
The Charge Nurse Manager role has a function that is both clinical and operational.
You will have proven leadership ability, a clear focus on patient health, excellent interpersonal/communication skills and are motivated to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will also hold or be working towards an appropriate post graduate qualification. Ophthalmic experience, while beneficial, is not as essential as your ability to effectively lead and manage your team.
We are looking for a dynamic, confident and competent Senior Registered Nurse who wishes to be responsible for supporting and enabling the provision of quality nursing care for the patients and families/whanau within our care.
Skills and experience
- Recent hospital experience with expert clinical nursing knowledge
- Experience in relevant management and/or leadership roles with the ability to influence decision making and change.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills.
- The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused.
- Strategic thinking and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration
- Familiar with operational, personnel and financial management
- Competent user of Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software
- A commitment to post graduate study either having completed or have commenced the post graduate pathway.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
