Clinical Nurse Specialist - Breast Reconstruction

Contract: Fixed term part time role (0.8) to cover maternity leave
Salary: NZNO Meca $114,025 - $121,444 based on skills and experience - pro rata
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The Plastic Surgical department is a Regional Service, which encompasses Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay, Whanganui, Blenheim and Nelson where regular clinics are held by attending clinicians.
The Breast reconstruction Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the first port of call for breast patients referred to Plastics, and for ongoing care throughout the patient journey - pre surgery, post-surgery and following discharge with ongoing follow ups. The CNS has expertise in delivering patient care and supporting staff caring for these patients and provides education to optimise post-operative care. The CNS organises, supports and participates in Consultant outpatient breast clinics at Hutt Valley Hospital.
Maintaining oversight for the regions data for breast reconstruction is an integral part of the CNS role, and having a close working relationship with the regions ensures optimum care for all patients.
This is a fixed term contract to cover parental leave, however there may be an opportunity to extend this term further to cover other service requirements.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
The Breast Reconstruction CNS role is very autonomous and is required to be proactive in managing workloads. Whilst this is an autonomous role, the CNS works closely with the teams in Plastics Outpatients, the Plastics Ward and theatres, including the CNMs, registered nurses, health care assistants, medical secretaries and receptionists to ensure safe delivery of care.
The CNS works very closely with the Breast surgeons and teams, both locally and regionally, in Plastics and General surgery. For ongoing management the CNS liaises with the GPs and district nursing teams to provide advice and support when caring for these patients whilst in the community.

Moū - About you
Knowledge of Skills & Experience:
- Clinical expertise and experience aligning with Maxillofacial, Burns and Plastic Surgery, with a special in-depth knowledge around breast reconstruction.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation and coaching skills
- Experience in practice development and quality improvement strategies
- Comprehensive knowledge informs NZ Health System understanding including equity issues, professional leadership and emerging issues for the nursing profession
- Proficient in the use of databases and excel spreadsheets
B. Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:
- Expert level in Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) and committed to maintain Expert/Senior (CC) or Expert (HV) PDRP
- Clinical Postgraduate Diploma is the required qualification however there is support to complete a Masters qualification. The prerequisite postgraduate clinical courses to undertake a RN prescribing practicum for NCNZ authorisation in RN prescribing in primary health and specialty teams, provide essential clinical knowledge for the CNS role. Note: Service and nursing leadership approval is required to undertake the RN prescribing practicum.
