Mental Health Assistant (casual), Older Persons' Mental Health

About the Role
As a Mental Health Assistant your role is to work with the team to provide basic nursing care under the supervision and direction of Registered Nurses. This can include working with challenging behaviours.
As this is a casual position, covering staff leave and periods of peak service demand, it will be important that you have the flexibility and availability to cover a range of shifts, sometimes at short notice. You'll be required to work across morning, afternoon and night shifts. This includes weekends and school holidays. Some forward planning and rostering will be available when covering planned leave.
About the Team/Location
The Older Persons - Mental Health Inpatient Unit, at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond, provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community. We aspire to provide high quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age related health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.
About You
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
- We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who has experience in older persons - health care, and has an affinity with the elderly. It is equally important that you are able to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability and use appropriate initiative.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
Essential
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
Preferred
- NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand (or equivalent)
