About the Role
This purpose of this role is to provide quality specialist psychiatry
services across Inpatient, Community, and Addictions teams, to
support clients of the service alongside our skilled Nursing and Allied Health
staff and covers acute care and on call work. The Mental Health and Addiction
Services is located on the Timaru Hospital campus and is where this role is
based.
About you
In South Canterbury we deliver a Strengths Based Model of Care and
we are seeking someone that will bring
their clinical expertise to our Mental Health and Addictions Service (which is
recognized by Government & general public alike, as being a priority need
area).
The ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines is essential.
We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist who is eligible for Vocational Registration with the NZ Medical Council and or a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrist (or equivalent).
Additionally we are seeking someone who demonstrates;
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects /
initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the
application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as
they apply in healthcare settings.
Health New Zealand - South Canterbury is responsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region and Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, (which has just commenced a significant refurbishment programme), providing our local community with such critical 24/7 services as ED, ICU/CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, Internal Medicine and Paediatrics. The Kensington Centre is across from the main hospital and provides inpatient and community mental health and addiction services

Salary Range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the Senior Medical Officers Collective and the salary will be in accordance with the Pay Scale, and dependent on relevant experience.
