Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)
The Older Persons - Mental Health Inpatient Unit, at Alexandra Hospital, provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community. We aspire to provide high quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age related health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.
We have a small pool of casual staff to cover leave and periods of high acuity. Casual staff are a valuable part of our workforce and enjoy the same opportunities available to permanent staff. Casual positions offer flexibility of work hours, work - life balance and the opportunity to apply for permanent positions when available. This vacancy is ideally suited to an RN who is available for night shift however other shifts are also available. Penal rates apply.
Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)
You will have current NCNZ registration and practising certificate, with no conditions that exclude Mental Health Scope of Practice, and a minimum of one year - s post-registration nursing experience is desirable.
You will have knowledge of:
- Physical and mental disorders commonly experienced in older persons
- Contemporary treatment approaches including person-centred care, sensory modulation, therapeutic use of self and therapeutic use of psychiatric medications
- Mental Health assessment and care planning
- Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, 1992
- PPPR Act - Welfare Guardianship
Your skills will include:
- Well-developed interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work effectively with patients who have challenging behaviours.
