Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The Regional Youth Forensic Community Mental Health Team is looking for an experienced Social Worker that provides safe and clinically effective patient/client assessments and intervention within a forensic mental health setting. You will work alongside your team to provide effective, quality social work services to clients within the Youth Forensic Service. You will also provide consultation/liaison with other District mental health services, NGO providers and patient - s family and whanau. You will actively participate in the multidisciplinary team.

Te Korowai Whariki (TKW) is an operational group of regional and national services that has staff based in various locations in the Central Region, from Gisborne to Wanganui through to Wellington. Te Korowai Whariki services are both inpatient and community based. Te Korowai Whariki consists primarily of two arms - Central Regional Services and the Intellectual Disability (ID) Services
The regional arm includes the Central Regional Forensic Mental Health Service, Youth Forensic Service and Rehabilitation and Extended Care inpatient Service. This position is located in the regional arm of Te Korowai-Whāriki which includes the Central Regional Forensic Mental Health Service. The Forensic Mental Health Service operates at the interface between Mental Health Services and the Justice System and works within the following settings - prisons, courts, community, and inpatient. The Service offers assessment and rehabilitation services to defendants charged with criminal offences and offenders who have psychiatric illness.
Moū - About you
We are looking for a social worker with at least 2-5 years in clinical experience applicable to this role. The ability to work as part of a team is essential to this role.
The social worker role would include:
- Attending Youth Court and provide mental health liaison to Youth Court Stakeholders
- Complete mental health and substance use screening assessments on youth who appear in the Youth Court.
- Provide the Court with recommendations from screening assessments, including further assessment reports where appropriate.
- Role model and provide sound clinical and cultural considerations in the multidisciplinary team process
- Assist the client and his/her family/whanau to achieve optimal health, well-being and safety through provision of appropriate assessment, risk management, referrals and education
- Work closely with community agencies to achieve the outcomes agreed by the multidisciplinary team process
