We have one vacancy available for a Clinical Pharmacist working at Wairoa.
With its own Team Leader to directly report to this close-knit team of Clinical Pharmacists offers a supportive environment in a role that does require you to be extremely autonomous
Your main responsibility is to provide direct clinical pharmacist facilitation services, focusing on the appropriate prescribing and utilization of medicines to Primary Care. The role also includes provision of clinical pharmacy services to Wairoa Acute Ward as needed.
To apply for the role you must have the following:
- Registered as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand holding a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) with no restrictions.
- Hold a relevant clinical post-graduate qualification, is working towards this, or has work experience sufficient to demonstrate general pharmaceutical knowledge in core areas and/or specialist pharmaceutical knowledge in management of long-term conditions.
- Current Driver’s License.
- Medicine review services, e.g. Medicines Therapy Assessment, Comprehensive Medicines Management or similar.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills
- Research, interpretation and provision of medicine information.

The rural town of Wairoa is located in northern Hawke’s Bay, halfway between Gisborne [1 hour north] and Napier [1.5 hours south]. There are 5,000 people in the town, with another 4,000 in the Wairoa District. The population is served by a multi-disciplinary health centre including the integrated general practice, Wairoa Hospital, and Allied Health. Wairoa Hospital has a 2-bed emergency room, an 11 bed acute care ward, as well as 3 maternity beds. Wairoa is a small, close-knit community with a number of interesting shops and cafés, including East End Café and Osler’s Bakery and a huge community centre [25m heated pool, gym, aerobic classes, ropes course].
The Wairoa River is one of the best rivers in the North Island for water-skiing and rowing, and the river mouth and local beaches are a favourite place for locals to surf and fish.
The Mahia Peninsula, a 30-minute drive to the east, is famous for its beautiful beaches, surfing breaks, fishing and scuba diving. Morere Hot Pools are approximately 30 minutes north-east of Wairoa.
