We are Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We are looking for a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Automated Biochemistry & Specimen services team in the Department of Automation and Laboratory Support Services at LabPLUS, Auckland City Hospital.
About the position
Specimen Services is a high workload area and we perform the pre-analytical processing of all work in the section which includes clinical trials processing for Te Toka Tumai. Our team works with all departments in LabPLUS and operates 24/7.
You will primarily be responsible for training of staff within the pre-analytical area during normal working hours of Monday to Friday. Other duties will include supporting senior staff in managing the workflow, organising the daily roster and updating documentation. You will be expected to contribute towards quality improvements in the area and a focus on service delivery is key requirement for this role.
This is a permanent role in a 24/7 department and rostered shift work is an integral part of this role. The hours are predominately 8.00am – 4.30pm working 40 hours per week. There will be minimal requirement to work all out of hours shifts on a rostered basis. This role requires specialist technical and scientific skills to develop and maintain the skills of team members rostered to the department.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
You will be a registered Medical Laboratory Technician with the Medical Sciences Council www.mscouncil.org.nz with a current annual practicing certificate. This role requires specialist technical and scientific skills to develop and maintain the skills of team members rostered to the department.
You will be responsible for ensuring the pre-analytical processes within this section are aligned to the needs of the referrers and provide a timely service. Good sample processing skills, staff training, contributing to quality improvements in the area and focus on service delivery are key requirements for this role.

About our Automation and Laboratory Support Services Department
The Automation and Support Services (ALSS) department which consists of Specimen Services and Automation (Chemistry).
We are a high workload area and we perform the pre-analytical processing which includes specimen receipt and dispatch, registration of specimens, allocating and triaging specimens for Te Toka Tumai.
Our team works with all departments in LabPLUS and operates 24/7
