Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service

Waikato Hospital’s Theatre and Anaesthesia service is comprised of a Day of Surgery Admission Unit, 23 Operating Theatres, Post Anaesthetic Care Units, Endoscopy Suites and an Interventional Radiology Suite. Our surgical specialties are Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Plastics and Burns Surgery, Paediatrics, Maxillofacial, Urology, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Dental, Delivery Suite and Termination of Pregnancy Services.

 

Waikato Hospital is the main trauma facility for the Waikato area therefore our team manage acute/emergency surgeries along with planned care work. Service provision is 24/7 with the emphasis Monday to Friday on a combination of acute/emergent and planned care. Weekends and Public Holidays are rostered in order to manage acute/emergent work and generally 5-6 operating theatres plus delivery suite continue to operate during this time.

 

Working in PACU offers a rewarding and stimulating career that encompasses a diverse work environment and the chance to gain an enormous range of desirable skills and experience. It requires a nurse with confident and articulate speaking abilities who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in PACU, critical care, or acute surgical nursing would be beneficial.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

• Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

• A minimum of two years post registration experience in an acute care setting in a New Zealand tertiary hospital.

• Be flexible in your work hours with varied start times to meet the 24 hour service, including the participation in an on-call roster.

• Prior experience in PACU nursing, critical care or acute surgical nursing is desirable.

• Have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
