Allied Health Assistant – Allied Health Interim Care Team
(Part-time, 0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week)

We are looking for an enthusiastic healthcare worker who is passionate about helping others and who is committed to making a difference in our community, to join our exciting allied health team providing rehabilitation to patients in the Te Whatu Ora Waitematā Interim Care Service.
The Interim Care Service is primarily for patients with non-acute injuries or conditions, who require short-term admission to an Aged Residential Care (ARC) facility for a period of recovery and rehabilitation following a hospital admission. Interim care patients commonly have conditions such as fractures (following a fall or trauma), and are thus unable to weight bear through one or more limbs for a period of time making it difficult for them to return to their home environment after their hospital admission. The ARC facilities are based in the North and West of the Waitematā district and travelling to and from these facilities using Waitematā vehicles is an essential part of the role.
In this exciting role you will work with a team that includes physiotherapists, an occupational therapist, a social worker, another allied health assistant and a charge nurse manager (CNM) as well as ARC nursing staff. The allied health assistant is a key member of the allied health team, providing regular rehabilitation to patients in the service, in order to improve their strength, function and independence.
The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the ICS allied health staff and CNM, and will build relationships with residential care facility staff. Key tasks include assisting patients with prescribed therapy programmes, practise of daily activities (such as dressing, making a hot drink, and practising transfers), demonstrating how to use equipment to maximise independence and safety, and assisting with ordering, delivering, setting up and installing equipment.
Our preferred candidate will ideally have experience working with older adults and be familiar with working in a hospital or residential care setting. The 20 hours worked will need to be between 8:00 – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, we prefer a Monday and can be flexible on which other days are worked, depending on candidate preferences.
You must be able to demonstrate the following key attributes:
· Excellent communication skills, particularly with older people & team members
· An adaptable and mature approach
· Ability to work well in a team
· Commitment to on-going learning
· Good organisational and self-management skills
· Self-motivation, enthusiasm and initiative
· A New Zealand Drivers Licence (full or restricted)
