Nelson Hospital - s 10 bed Medical Admissions and Planning Unit (MAPU) is a dedicated unit for assessing and monitoring patients with acute medical and cardiac conditions. It is a fast-paced environment where you will have plenty of opportunity to use all your skills, with daily learning opportunities.
As a Health Care Assistant, you will be part of our nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery and other tasks as directed.
We have two permanent positions available:
- 0.6FTE working 48 hours a fortnight.
- 0.7FTE working 56 hours a fortnight.
Shifts will be rostered Monday to Saturday AMs, with a 4-hour shift 7.00am to 11.00am on a Sunday.

You will have a mature outlook, the ability to get on with a wide variety of people as well as excellent communication skills. You will also have the ability to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability, use appropriate initiative.
Qualifications
Essential
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA level 3 qualification (or equivalent)*
Desirable
- Home Carer Certificate (or equivalent)
Mandatory requirement
*NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, is to be commenced once orientations have been attended.

Whatu Ora staff are required to have completed their primary course of two NZ
approved Covid-19 vaccinations.
