The General Medical Team of Nelson Hospital is pleased to invite applications for a permanent, fulltime Registrar post in General Medicine, working 80 hours per fortnight.
The Emergency Department provides the front door for all admissions and is a key relationship. Clinical Services are fully supported by processes from Laboratory, Radiology and Speciality Surgical Services. The on-call acute general medical registrar works in close association with the Emergency Department to manage patients referred either directly to Medicine from community settings or via the Emergency Department team.
The General Medical Department runs an active educational program within which the registrars are routinely engaged.
The working hours are 8.00am to 4.00pm daily with long days 4.00pm to 10.00pm. Night shifts will be 10.00pm to 8.00am. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are 8.00am to 10.00pm.

All applicants must hold valid registration or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
Te Whatu Ora staff must have completed their
primary course of two NZ approved COVID-19 vaccinations as they have direct
contact with patients and members of the public.
Ā mātou rōpū (About our team)
Our Nelson General Medical Team provides outstanding clinical
experience in undifferentiated Acute Adult Medicine with excellent support from
the Cardiology Team. Our team of General Physicians are dual specialists
with sub-specialty interests including Endocrinology/Diabetes, Gastroenterology
and Hepatology, Oncology and Haematology, Renal medicine and Intensive Care,
Respiratory medicine, Rheumatology and Neurology. These specialty
practices are predominantly outpatient service based with support provided to
the General Medical Admitting Team for inpatient sub-specialty advice and
care. All registrars are expected to participate in out-patient clinics
with their allocated supervising specialist. This allocation can accommodate
specific clinical interests of trainees on request.
