Rural Medicine Registrar

Applications are invited for the 2024 year for a 6 to 12 month attachment in Emergency Medicine. This is an accredited training position as a core attachment (in Emergency Medicine) for the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine. We highly encourage applications from our Māori communities. 

Candidates who have completed two years post graduate hospital and who have an interest in rural medicine will be considered. We provide an excellent generalist training environment with a broad and interesting case mix. Clinical supervision is provided by Emergency Medicine Specialists and Rural Hospital Specialists.  There are opportunities for career planning and development.

Thames has a 15 bed emergency department with an inpatient unit.  There will be scheduled time at Waikato Hospital for 2 trauma weeks as part of the 6 month attachment for rural hospital medicine registrars.

Thames is a coastal town known as the gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula. There is easy access to native bush with world class walks. tramps and surf beaches in this popular recreational area.
