Medical Registrars - Older Persons Health - 2024 Training Year

Older Persons Health in Hawkes Bay is looking for enthusiastic and committed Basic Physician (BPT) and Advanced Trainees (AT) looking to further their Geriatric Medicine training.
Applications are invited for the position of Medical Registrars – Advanced and Basic Physician Trainees Older Persons Health for next year commencing in February and/or August 2024.
We are now accredited for both Core A and Core B of the Geriatrics Curriculum for 6 months each, allowing us to have 2 ATs for 1 year each. We also have provisional approval for a 6-month Geriatric Medicine Registrar training at the BPT grade.
Our rich and diverse department boasts 6 Consultants, with interests in Falls and Syncope, Orthogeriatric and Peri-Operative Medicine, Movement Disorders, Dementia, Frailty, and Community Geriatrics. The successful applicant will be supported in developing competence in all aspects of the Geriatrics Curriculum with strong opportunities for audit and research interests, as part of a personalised training plan.
In the community, our Clinical Nurse Specialists work alongside our award-winning Community Services (engAGE) to offer comprehensive geriatric assessment in a locality-based model, along with innovative early supported discharge via our Hoki Ki Te Kainga model. We also offer early assessment to frail patients discharged from our Emergency Department.
Inpatient rehabilitation and comprehensive assessment is provided in our Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation ward (AT & R ward); the ward caters for the needs of Stroke, Orthogeriatric, Neurological and Frailty patients, with joint care of older mental health patients.
Trainees will also be able to gain Internal Medicine competencies, as both ATs and Registrars. We also have a strong track record of recent trainees gaining success in RACP exams.

Hawke’s Bay Hospital is a 400 bed hospital providing acute and elective care for the Hawke's Bay region. There are over 8000 acute medical admissions each year.
We have most major medical and surgical subspecialties on site (except cardiothoracic and neurosurgery), as well as paediatrics and O&G. We are well supported by a strong regional ICU team. We have strengthening Primary and Community health services and an increasingly integrated approach to health and health care.

Experience and Eligibility

Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who will be PGY3+ or above.
