Senior Occupational Therapist - FMU

  • Seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Team at Fraser McDonald Unit, an inpatient mental health service for adults aged 65+
  • Provide acute assessment, treatment and care management with a view to return people back to community-based care as soon as possible
  • Permanent, full-time (40 hours) role, Monday to Friday, based in Auckland City Hospital

 

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team at Fraser McDonald Unit, based in Auckland City Hospital.

 

Fraser McDonald Unit serves the central Auckland population of adults over 65 experiencing acute mental illness or behavioural or psychological difficulties associated with dementia. We are a 15-bed acute admission unit incorporating a high care area and designed for older people. We provide acute assessment, treatment and care management with a view to return people back to community-based care as soon as possible.

 

You will  be skilled in completing comprehensive occupational performance assessments to assist the multi-disciplinary team in transitioning the whai ora back to the community. You will also work closely with whanau and care providers to offer interventions that enhance participation in daily living in the community and improve quality of life.

 

Clinical services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team which includes a Nurse Unit Manager, Charge Nurse, Nurse Educator, Registered Nurses, Psychiatrists, Registrar, House Officer,  Psychologist, Social Worker,  Physiotherapist, Social Worker and a Music Therapist.

 

Te Toka Tumai Auckland has an extensive and supportive occupational therapy mental health network.  There is strong commitment to supporting professional development in line with professional requirements, alongside meeting clinical/professional supervision needs and offering career progression opportunities.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 4 years mental health experience.

 

You will be registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of NZ (with no condition on scope of practice) and hold a current valid APC.

 

This is an area of work that requires a highly proactive and enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills to meet the challenges and opportunities of the practice setting.  The role requires sound occupation-centred philosophy, commitment to teamwork and excellent organisational capability.

 

The role will also involve mentoring students, so you will also need the ability to lead and mentor.
