Associate Director of Nursing - Regional Forensic Psychiatry and Addiction Services

Waitemata District Health Board (North & West Auckland) Careers Logo

As the largest Mental Health and Addiction service in the country, Waitemata DHB has the responsibility for the provision of services across the largest DHB population in New Zealand, over 650,000 people, as well as for Addiction services for the greater Auckland metropolitan area and Forensic services for the northern region.

We have increased the number of our senior nursing roles and have therefore developed an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior nurse with a passion for developing the workforce and the nursing profession to take an Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) role across the portfolio of Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Services provided by this DHB within the region. The key areas of responsibility include the Addiction Services (encompassing a range of community-based services including counselling services and other specialist teams) as well as inpatient medically managed withdrawal services) and the Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service (encompassing a range of acute and rehabilitation inpatient teams; Court Liaison and Prison teams; and a Forensic Community Service and community liaison).

This position technically reports to the Director of Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Services (SMHAS) and the DHB Chief of Nursing, working in partnership with the Director and the General Manager SMHAS as a member of the SMH&AS Divisional Leadership Team and the service wide Clinical Governance group.

Your role will be to provide strong professional nursing leadership to the SMHAS, in concert with your ADON colleague in the District Mental Health Services.

Your extensive experience and clinical knowledge along with your reputation as a professional leader of influence will be required to support change and improvement to continually enhance performance, efficiency and effectiveness and to provide the best possible patient outcomes.

You will be a registered nurse with a current annual practicing certificate that enables you to work within mental health and addictions specialities, and will hold a Masters (or equivalent) in Nursing or management.

SMHAS has a nursing workforce of over 600 and growing, so your ability to lead and provide direction will be critical factors in you being successful in this role.
