Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are excited to offer the opportunity for an occupational therapist to join our acute team. We are looking for a therapist who is an outstanding communicator, active team member, enjoys the fast pace of working in the acute inpatient area and takes pride in delivering best practice to all our patients.
You will be part of a wider team of occupational therapist (experienced clinicians and rotational staff). This role will give you an opportunity to progress both your clinical and non-clinical skills, giving you the chance to advance your practice.
This role will also be involved in service development and leadership projects. Formal and informal development plans to build and increase your clinical and non-clinical skills will be available. The occupational therapist in this role will also provide support to other occupational therapists within the team and across services with a specific focus on the medical stream (including oncology and MAPU).
You will be well supported by a friendly, fun and enthusiastic team, with leadership from dedicated Team Leaders and highly skilled and experienced occupational therapists. We offer on-going professional development and formal supervision. Cultural professional supervision is available for Māori and Pacific Health clinicans.

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
Our team is currently made up of 12 occupational therapists, with 5 team members in the rotational group. We work in the acute setting, assessing and treating patients to contribute to successful discharges and acute hospital flow. We are part of a wider ORA team that has 53 occupational therapists working across community, outpatients and rehabilitation settings.
Moū - About you
- Preferably three or more years- experience
- Registration and current APC with Occupational Therapy Board NZ
- Recent inpatient occupational therapy clinical experience
- A clear understanding of the health needs of our Māori and Pacific Island communities
- Demonstrates ability to build rapport with patient and whānau from all backgrounds
- NZ drivers licence is preferable
- Assessment, management and intervention of occupational performance issues
- Support the wider Occupational Therapy team as clinical demand dictates
- Mentor and support rotational Occupational Therapists as required
- Clinically supervise undergraduate Occupational Therapy students
- Active involvement in the development of the Occupational Therapy service
- Weekend cover roster (approx. once every 8 weeks for up to 4 hours)
