Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to join our inpatient service at Wellington Regional Hospital. The social worker in this role will cover into all areas of the hospital when the usual social worker is on leave. Areas include the Emergency Department, Medical, Surgical, Oncology, Renal, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Intensive Care Unit, Women - s Health, Neo-Natal Unit and Paediatrics. The role will be varied and interesting with the opportunity to flex into different areas of the hospital. The Social Worker will be supported to upskill in areas they are not familiar with.
The Social Worker will be allocated referrals by either the Social Work Team Leader or Social Work Coordinator. They will also provide social work throughout Wellington Hospital for 6 hours on Saturdays on a roster basis, approximately 3-4 times a year and paid at penal rates.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
We are a team of 22 social workers based at Wellington Hospital who provide a service to patients and their whānau across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. We complete psycho social assessments across the age range and provide holistic social work interventions. This role is well supported by all other team members. As the successful candidate you will have a real passion for working in health social work and be highly motivated to improving health outcomes for patients and their whānau. You will be able to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and with external agencies.

The successful applicant will have the following skills and attributes:
- NZ Registered Social Worker with current annual practising certificate
- Minimum of 3 years social work practice
- The ability to complete psychosocial needs assessment
- Navigating and working within the legal requirements of health care and social work
- A clear understanding of the health needs of Māori and Pacific Island communities
- Therapeutic social work counselling experience (desirable)
- Previous work in a health setting and a good understanding of health social work
