A permanent full time position has become available for a Consultant position as a Clinical Specialist Microbiologist (Consultant Microbiologist) to join our enthusiastic and friendly team at Waikato Hospital Laboratory. Depending on the applicant’s background, there may be the opportunity to blend this position with another interest such as infectious diseases.

 

The successful applicant will be based in Hamilton at Waikato hospital, working in partnership with our other full time Microbiologist and in collaboration with the Infectious Disease team and Infection Prevention and Control team to provide clinical microbiology support across the region.

 

While both clinical microbiologists will cover all areas, it is expected that the new appointee may focus on particular areas within the role depending on their interest and expertise.

Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service

The Pathology service provides an extensive range of diagnostic testing across five laboratory sites in the Waikato region and processes referred specialist testing for the wider region.

 

The laboratory provides almost complete microbiology services in bacteriology, mycology, antimicrobial susceptibility, mycobacterial culture and DST, infectious disease serology including high volume work and conditions rare in New Zealand, molecular diagnostics, viral and bacterial, both high volume and specialist testing. Day to day, we work closely with Public Health, Paediatrics, Adult Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention and Control teams.

 

Mōu | About you

Applicants must hold a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or an equivalent qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
