Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Our Community Mental Health team is an experienced and highly motivated team, providing support to clients aged 18 years and older. The draws on a diverse range of professional expertise, incorporating CBT, dynamic therapies, family interventions, mindfulness and DBT groups. We also collaborate with local primary schools to ensure the best outcomes for our community.
You’ll be part of our team of 14 psychiatrists, working alongside a dedicated group of medical, nursing and allied health professionals. Together, we provide care for individuals with complex needs, primarily win a community setting, who require specialist mental health services. Additionally, there are 4 training registrars currently in post. The Mental Health and Addictions service (MHAS) hosts medical students from the University of Auckland. You will enjoy the benefits of teaching and supervising years 5 and 6, while having access to the University’s up to date resources.
While applying your psychiatry skills, you’ll also be introduced to and learn about New Zealand’s unique cultures, which you will integrate into your practice.
The service offers a comprehensive range of specialist services within the Taranaki region, including: A 23-bed acute inpatient unit catering for adult / high needs and older people / Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services / Mental Health Services for Older people / Alcohol and Drug Services / Consult Liaison / Acute Assessment via the Mental Health Assessment Team / Co Response Service - responding to 111 calls.
As part of the MHAS service, you will be expected to:
· Offer consultant services to individuals in need of specialist care.
- Interact and collaborate daily with other departments.
- Provide mentorship to junior medical staff assigned to the service.
- Possess the ability to work in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, community settings inclusive of crisis work.
- Participate in an on call 1:10 roster.
Moū - About you
Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:
· A Psychiatrist who is vocationally registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Works well in multidisciplinary teams to provide person centred care.
- Strives to improve the way services are developed and delivered.
- Has excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds.
- Engages with other providers, consumers, and health organisations to improve the quality and responsiveness of services.
- Focuses on achieving results and developing and maintaining good working relationships in the workplace.
