Mō te tūranga - About the role
Work as a part of the inpatient and outpatient Speech Language therapy team in Southland, with the option to work with critical care patients if you have competence in this area.
You will provide a safe and clinically effective patient/client assessment and intervention. Providing evidence for competencies relating to complex and specialist presentations if CCU work is undertaken.
This role will also have responsibility for providing clinical leadership within the team or service, which assists in developing the clinical capability of others. There is an expectation of competence and confidence working in an MDT context to support wrap-around care and transition.
Work in other areas as identified at times and support the organisation in managing safe patient care and maintaining service delivery.
Your role may also involve supporting other SLT's to achieve their clinical competencies and will include an element of supervision and leadership. (all SLTs except for new grads have this as an expectation again this is from pillars of practice) but this is fine to change this.
Mōu ake - About you
Essential knowledge, skills & experience:
- At least 2 years of clinical practice in a health setting
- Knowledge in Dysphagia and VFSS competence to a minimum of level 2
- Communication therapies including the use of AAC
- Clinical experience and knowledge relevant to an inpatient/outpatient Speech Language Therapy role
- A Bachelor or Masters in Speech Language therapy or equivalent that is recognised and approved by the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists' Association (NZSTA)
- Full registered member of NZSTA (essential)
- A full NZ driving licence.

Utu whānui - Salary range
This role belongs to the PSA/DHBs Allied, Public Health and Technical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($59,035 p.a) and Step 12 ($99,420 p.a pro rata) of the Degree-Based Allied, Public Health and Technical scale.
