Speech Language Therapist

Critical Care Unit, Southland

  • Permanent opportunity
  • Multiple FTE available from 0.4 FTE (16hrs per week) to 0.8 FTE (32hrs per week)

Mō te tūranga - About the role

The primary purpose of the role is to work as a part of the Inpatient Speech-language therapy team particularly in the Critical Care Unit in Southland.

You will provide a safe and clinically effective patient/client assessment and intervention with demonstration of advanced knowledge and skills to manage complex presentations in a CCU setting.

This role will also have responsibility for providing clinical leadership within the team or service, which assists in developing the clinical capability of others. There is an expectation of competence and confidence working in an MDT context to support wrap around care and transition.

Your work in CCU will require sound knowledge and competence in Dysphagia, Tracheostomy, VFSS and communication assessment and treatment. Knowledge of FEES and laryngectomy is desirable. You should have evidence of these competencies.

Work in other areas as identified at times and support the organisation in managing safe patient care and maintaining service delivery.

Your role will also involve supporting other SLT's to achieve their clinical competencies and will include an element of supervision and leadership.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Expectation of at least five years clinical practice including in a CCU environment
  • Advanced speciality knowledge in Dysphagia, Tracheostomy, VFSS and Communication including use of AAC
  • Clinical experience and advanced knowledge relevant to a Critical Care Unit in an SLT role
  • A Bachelors or Masters in Speech-language therapy or equivalent that is recognised and approved by the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists' Association (NZSTA)
  • Full Member of NZSTA (essential)

Utu whānui -Salary range

This role belongs to the PSA/DHBs Allied, Public Health and Technical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($59,035 p.a) and Step 12 ($99,420 p.a pro rata) of the Degree-Based Allied, Public Health and Technical scale.
