Mō te tūranga - About the role

We are looking for two committed and enthusiastic candidates for our SHO positions in Anaesthesia. The full appointment is for 12 months from January 2023 to January 2024 at Dunedin Hospital with 6 months working as an SHO in our busy and supportive Anaesthesia department with the remaining period being worked in rotations arranged with the RMO Unit to suit individual candidates - for example ICU. The first candidate will start in Anaesthesia in January 2024 and the second in August 2024.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have a strong interest in Anaesthesia as a career. These positions are considered a stepping- stone towards the popular South Island Anaesthesia Training Scheme in the four-year ANZCA Training Programme.

You will receive direct consultant teaching daily as we support you in pre-assessing patients, administering anaesthesia to all ages, providing obstetric anaesthesia, and becoming an expert in resuscitation, technical skills and pain relief. There is no on call component.

Mōu ake - About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at www.mcnz.org.nz
  • you will need a minimum of two years post graduate medical experience

It is requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion. Utu whānui -Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and 20 DHB Multi Employer Collective 17 May 2021 - 31 March 2024 (NZRDA MECA) and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand and 20 District Health Boards Multi Employer Collective Agreement 14 December 2021 - 13 December 2023 (the STONZ MECA) and the salary will fall between $103,045 - $106,045dependant on relevant experience.
