Registrar - Paediatrics - Commencing January 2024

Mō te tūranga - About the role:

  • Role is split to provide diverse opportunities in both general Paediatrics and Neonatal care, within a busy and supportive service
  • Includes both inpatient care in a Children's Unit and outpatient clinics where you'll be exposed to a range of clinical presentations
  • Dunedin Hospital has a Level 3 NICU providing care for neonates from 23 weeks gestation, as well as the opportunity to be part of a team involved in neonatal retrievals and transport
  • In addition to this there are multiple visiting outpatient clinics from quaternary services (such as Starship cardiology, respiratory and nephrology, along with genetics (Wellington), gastroenterology, neurology, paediatric surgery, and urology (Christchurch)) to optimise learning opportunities and exposure. Registrars are involved in acute assessment of children in both the Paediatric Assessment Unit and Emergency Department settings
  • We are a training site for RACP trainees (both advanced and basic) and have very strong link with RACP
  • The department is highly supportive of registrars sitting their RACP written and clinical exams. Our department has had high pass rates for trainees sitting both the RACP written and clinical exams
  • Very strong links with the University of Otago Medical School

Mōu ake - About you

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at www.mcnz.org.nz
  • A minimum of two years post qualification experience and possess a strong interest in Children's Health

It is requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion. Utu whānui - Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association & 20 DHB Multi Employer Collective 17 May 2021 - 31 March 2024 (NZRDA MECA) and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand and 20 District Health Boards Multi Employer Collective Agreement 14 December 2021 - 13 December 2023 (the STONZ MECA) and the salary will fall between $120,475 - $203,500dependant on relevant experience.
