About the role:
As the Clinical Coordinator of Former Refugee Mental Health and Addictions you will work with former refugees and families who are entering New Zealand as part of the Refugee Quota program to ensure appropriate assessments, referrals and people have equitable access to support and appropriate services.
Within this role, you will work alongside families to hold their voice and choice central to the care they receive. This will include providing direct support to former refugees and families through psychoeducation, educating about mental health and addictions supports, and when required, holding a case load where clinical interventions are provided.
As the sector wide contact for referrals relating to the mental health and/or addiction needs of former refugees and their families, you will work in partnership across the health sector, social service agencies and community organisations to meet the needs of the client and their families.
In joining the former refugee team you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, working from a variety of settings including WellSouth, General Practices, and out in the community, including patient's homes in the wider Southland area.
To be successful in the role you will:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in working with those experiencing mild-severe mental health difficulties.
- Experience working with former refugees and their families is desirable.
- Recognises and is knowledgeable of cultural differences and needs of former refugees and their families. Able to attend to the needs of people presenting within the service.
- Able to deliver trauma informed care and evidenced based therapeutic interventions.
- Experience in working with persons across the age spectrum presenting with mild -severe Mental Health and/or Addiction needs.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of community resources and Health Services and be familiar with key interface issues.
- Has well-developed advisory/consultative and facilitation skills.
- Be a Registered Health Professional, experienced in primary/community care and with a current practising certificate and a clean driver's licence.
A strong commitment to working as part of a supportive team and on autonomous projects will be crucial to success. On occasion you may be required to work non-standard hours and travel within the region.
Although this role is Dunedin based, there will be the requirement to travel on an ongoing and regular basis, this will include our other settlement location Invercargill
