About the role
Health New Zealand / Te Whatu Ora, Northland is currently looking for a motivated Paediatric Speech Language Therapist to join our Child Health team based at Whangarei Hospital. This role will be part of a pilot between Pregnancy and Parenting (PPS) and Child Development Services (CDS) providing early intervention to children at risk of developmental delay
This is a fixed term position ending 30 June 2026. You will be working 32 hours a week between Monday to Friday.
You will be required to provide an effective and efficient Paediatric Speech Language Therapy service to children in Northland. This will include children with disabilities and developmental problems within Speech Language Therapy service criteria. You will also be required to provide dysphagia and communication assessment, support and education in partnership with whānau.
Working within a multi-disciplinary team; you will have the ability to empathise and communicate effectively with patients in a culturally safe manner and it is desirable for the successful applicant to have previous experience working with children with communication difficulties and dysphagia.
Key Requirements:
- Degree in Speech Language Therapy or equivalent
- Registration with NZSTA
- Previous experience working in the field of Speech Language Therapy
- Excellent English language communication skills (both oral and written)
Whilst not essential; the following education and/or skills are desirable for this position:
- A course in Dysphagia (as part of training or as post graduate course)
- Makaton training
- Experience in signing
