Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Te Whatu Ora MidCentral Emergency Department has a close-knit team of FACEMs who are committed to providing a supportive training environment, and to the career development of our registrars. The Emergency Department is a mixed ED and is Tier 2 accredited under the revised Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) training programme (24 months). It is also accredited for Paediatric Emergency Medicine and the Paediatric Logbook components of the training programme. Painga | What's in it for you
Our department is committed to supporting our trainees as they progress through the ACEM training programme. The department prides itself on its weekly, structured, protected teaching programme which is consultant led. This programme is delivered using an array of teaching strategies (tutorials, simulation sessions, clinical skills workshops, morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical radiology sessions) and features dedicated paediatric emergency medicine teaching.
For junior trainees, there is a highly supported and successful Primary examination teaching programme with one of the highest success rates across Australasia. Our Fellowship examination preparation programme is run by FACEMs who are on the ACEM Council of Education Fellowship Exam Writing Group. Both the Primary and Fellowship examination programme sessions are delivered weekly in addition to the protected teaching programme.
The department also offers an embedded mentoring programme which aligns with the ACEM mentoring strategy. In addition there are opportunities for clinical research and involvement in departmental non-clinical portfolios by agreement. For our advanced trainees there is the opportunity to apply for the Senior Registrar role, which brings exposure to leadership and management, and which is remunerated accordingly.
As a department we are committed to the ACEM Aotearoa Manaaki Mana Strategy. During your time with us you will be provided with cultural competence and cultural safety training which will progress you into learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the founding document which encapsulates the fundamental relationship between the Crown and Iwi. You will be given the opportunity to more deeply understand our responsibility to eliminate Māori health inequities, and how to practise Emergency Medicine in a way that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Mōu ake | About you
