Infectious Diseases and General Medicine Physician
Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral have an exciting opportunity for a Infectious Diseases Physician to join our service! You will be part of the Internal Medicine team as one of MidCentral's Infectious Diseases specialists with a focus on both outpatient and inpatient services and providing clinical support to our Infection Prevention and Control Service.
About the role and team:
We are looking for a consultant who brings specialist clinical skills to join our multidisciplinary team to ensure we provide a patient centred approach to the General Medicine and Infectious Diseases roles. Our current team includes an ID consultant, Infection Prevention and Control team, Home IV antibiotic and vascular access teams, as well as a fulltime ID Pharmacist and Microbiologist.
This role provides specialist ID advice to inpatient teams, including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT, Urology, ICU, Oncology – medical and radiation, Haematology, General Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Neurology and Renal, including a large dialysis unit. The ID team also supports the pharmacy-led Antimicrobial Stewardship programme, sits on the IPC committee and is involved in education across the organisation. We work together with a Microbiologist and the lab team and the Sexual Health service, including HIV, which is located on site.
This position includes a focus on both outpatient and inpatient work, consultation support for the wider health provision (secondary and primary care) and will be a crucial part of our service development through facility upgrades, new building, and process reengineering.
It is intended that this role with be split between Infectious Diseases 0.5 and General Medicine 0.5. The general medicine component is made up of inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities as well as dedicated time reserved for administrative tasks. You will also take part in an acute General Medicine on-call roster with registrar support.
