Occupational Therapy Assistant: Palmerston North Hospital: Temporary Full-time and Part-time roles available
About the Role
In this role you will be supporting the work of Occupational Therapists working in the Occupational Therapy Service at MidCentral Health. You will be part of the team working on the acute and rehabilitation wards supporting the recovery of those following a period of illness and supporting people to transition home from the hospital to the community. These positions are temporoary roles and can be either part time of full time.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant you will beundertaking occupational therapy interventions with clients under direction and delegation from an Occupational Therapist. You will complete documentation, provide support around the provision, and installation of specified rehabilitation equipment. Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist you will support clients to complete activities of daily living tasks with clients as part of their rehabilitation program, participate in running group activities and complete administrative duties. Excellent remuneration is available.
Our team of occupational therapists and assistantsprovide a professional service provided centrally in the base hospital in Palmerston North. Small therapy teams also provide assessment and intervention within outlying rural centres covering Levin and Horowhenua, and the Tararua district encompassing both Pahiatua and Dannevirke.
These roles will primarily be on the acute wards in Palmerston North covering areas such as surgical, medical, oncology, and rehabilitation.

About you
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant you will be:
- Enthusiastic, energetic, resilient, with a ‘can do' attitude
- Able to work under pressure and direction with the ability to adapt to new ways of working
- Effective in written, oral and computer skills with an ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures
- Qualified with a minimum of Career Force Level 3 Health and Wellbeing/Assistant strand or equivalent qualification
- Displaying a strong desire to help clients and whānau achieve their goals
