Mō te tūranga ' About the role
The Waimarino Midwifery Service (WMS) is a midwifery team, who provide care to our remote rural hapu wahine, pēpi and whānau living in the Waimarino, Ruapehu and National Park rohe. They are situated in Raetihi with clinic rooms and a birthing unit located within the rural Waimarino community health centre. The WMS provides antenatal and postnatal care and labour support for low-risk primary wahine who wish to birth locally, either in the unit or at home. Care is provided 24 hours 7 days a week in a shared caseload model of care, supported by a local locum midwife. The WMS is supported by a dedicated team of health and allied health practitioners. This includes nurses, a social worker, administration staff, mental health, and iwi providers. The WMS team also works collaboratively with colleagues at Whanganui Hospital to provide safe care for wahine, pēpi and whānau who require secondary services.
