Registered Nurse MAPU

Service:   Medical Assessment & Planning Unit ( MAPU)

Contract: Permanent Part-time 0.9 FTE

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Registered Nurses in MAPU are key in meeting the service-s overall aim. The successful candidate will have astute assessment skills to identify the unwell patient as well as see the holistic needs of all admitted patients. This means being able to proactively refer patients to other services and key health care professionals in a timely manner at any point in the admission. You will work within a small team of registered nurses, health care assistants and administrative support personnel. You will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager and be supported in your learning and development by the Clinical Nurse Educator. The nurses in MAPU work closely with ED, medical staff, allied health and the Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist. It is very much a team approach to ensuring the efficient admission and discharge of all those admitted. Underlying all interactions and day to day tasks the MAPU staff illustrate the values of the DHB; Always Caring, Can Do, In Partnership and Being Our Best. Upholding these values is key to our high functioning, positive MAPU team. 

This position is rostered and rotating (AMs, PMs, Nights, weekdays, weekends, public holidays).

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

MAPU (Medical Assessment & Planning Unit) is a 16 bedded unit aimed at assessing, treating and supportively discharging medical and surgical patients back home within a 24 hour timeframe. The unit works hard to enable efficient and effective patient flow through the system. This means taking direct admissions from GP practices and also ED with the aim of providing a thorough assessment and MDT review to enable a safe and timely discharge home.

Moū - About you

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Current medical or surgical experience in an acute NZ hospital setting, 5+ years- experience required
  • Current NZNC APC
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team 
  • Drive to upskill and eventually coordinate shifts
  • Competent in phlebotomy and cannulation
  • Committed to quality and safety in the workplace
  • Skilled in identifying the acutely unwell patient 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • NZRC trained (not essential but preferable)
  • A commitment to embedding the principles of CCDM in the workplace
