Respiratory Physician

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi. Engari, he toa takitini.
Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.
Permanent (Fixed term considered if applicant preference)
This exciting new position represents the fifth respiratory consultant in a strong and growing regional department covering all aspects of respiratory medicine. Recent expansion of the department includes the addition of an advanced trainee in respiratory medicine and nurse practitioner roles. This growth affords the successful applicant an opportunity to explore their sub-specialty interests with scope to shape and develop the role whilst contributing to broader departmental activities.
Services include regular bronchoscopy lists, a growing pleural service, and outpatient services across the breadth of respiratory and sleep medicine including local clinics for obstructive airways disease, a large lung cancer service, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, TB and lung transplantation with network support from tertiary centres. One quarter of the role will be spent covering inpatients through a general medical ward with a predominance of respiratory patients, this includes being involved in the acute medicine on-call roster.
There is shared responsibility to reporting of pulmonary function testing including CPET in a newly re-equipped, negative pressure lung function laboratory; provision of sleep services; teaching of RMOs, nurses and allied health; developing models of care and liaison with community-based support services. Development of community services is a particular area of focus with further near-term expansion of specialty care to non-hospital settings forthcoming. You should be able to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
