The Mental Health and Addictions Service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer in Intensive Mental Health Services, Ngā Rau Rākau, acute mental health inpatient unit. The Intensive Mental Health Service is a 23-bed unit catering to those whaiora with high and medium intensity mental health needs requiring admission to an inpatient facility. This service works in conjunction with two large community teams, with a Kaupapa Māori Mental Health Service provided by an NGO partner and satellite teams in the smaller population centres. Within the service are Te Harakeke Child, Adolescent and Family Service, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou Parenting and Pregnancy, Consult-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health Service, Older Persons Mental Health and Addiction services.

The in-patient unit is on the Regional Hospital campus in Hastings and features high and medium intensity treatment areas as well as an intensive day treatment unit. Local residential addictions treatment service is provided in Napier and an opioid substitution programme is provided in both major population centres.
Mental Health Services work closely with primary care and NGO providers to create individual care packages for patients and some specialist services such as forensic care, is provided on a regional basis.
Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital is a large secondary level, 400 bed accredited public hospital providing acute and elective care for a region of over 178,500 people. Applicants must be qualified by the Medical Council and either a general scope with a specialty in addiction psychiatry or have a vocational scope of practice or working towards this.
