ABOUT THE ROLE
The Medical Department at Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is open for applications for an advanced trainee starting 29 January 2024 for 1 year. We are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Basic and Advanced Trainees. Our service includes nine medical registrars working closely with SMOs and house officers to provide efficient and effective care for the people of Tairāwhiti.
As a medical registrar, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in general medicine as part of our team. The department consists of six Physicians in General Medicine with sub-specialty interests and two outpatient Consultant Cardiologists as well as specialist nurses and visiting sub-specialists. As part of your inpatient duties, you will participate in medical admissions and management with an unselected medical take, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures. There are also a number of educational opportunities including journal club, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions.
Gisborne Hospital a 110 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area, Tairawhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic registrar. Providing healthcare to a population of 54,000, Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato.
