Pukenga Atawhai - Children In Care / CAF Under 5's

  • Permanent 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) position available.
  • This is a Specific Cultural Role, therefore the applicants for this position, must have whakapapa to Iwi.

Our Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS) are at the leading edge of mental health service delivery. We provide a range of inpatient and community services to tangata whaiora in the Waitaha Rohe (Canterbury district).

We have a fulltime permanent position in our Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health Service - working in CAF Under 5s and Children in Care (working alongside Oranga Tamariki) Teams. These teams are part of CAF Specialist Teams based at Whakatata House.

Consultation, assessment and treatment of Tamariki are fundamental with emphasis on partnership/collaboration with other agencies involved. Networking with NGOs especially Māori providers is important for assisting the transition and longer term support of tangata whaiora and whānau.

Pukenga Atawhai also support other teams as needed and participate in an out-of-hours roster.

Our service - s philosophy is whanaungatanga - acknowledging the centrality of whānau in our work and the lives of tangata whaiora.

As a Pukenga Atawhai you will:

  • Awhina and manaaki our tangata whaiora and whānau.
  • Connect and engage with tangata whaiora to understand their cultural requirements through assessments (Te Arotakenga - cultural assessments).
  • Work alongside and guide our qualified professionals to be culturally responsive.
  • Tautoko (support) our kaimahi (staff) in understanding Tikanga Māori.

To be successful as a Pukenga Atawhai, your core strengths will include:

  • A strong knowledge of Te Ao Māori (Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga Māori) and ability to apply these values when connecting with others.
  • A natural ability to build and nurture relationships.
  • Reflective communication practices and a holistic view when caring for others.
  • A full NZ driver - s license is essential.
