He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
The Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department (ED) medical specialist team has grown rapidly over the past few years in response to the growth in population and service demand. We are committed to delivering excellent regional emergency medicine care for the people of the Bay of Plenty.
Our ED sees a diverse case mix with over 55,000 presentations per annum of which 20% is paediatric. The population of the Western Bay of Plenty is continuing to grow rapidly with high numbers of older adults retiring to the Bay alongside growth in industry and commerce attracting younger people and families to relocate to the region. Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty has a Māori population of around 22% with the largest number of Māori living in the Western Bay of Plenty. Our organisation and department are committed to improving Māori health equity and to working with Hauora a Toi Iwi to ensure services meet Te Tiriti expectations and improve health outcomes.
The department is accredited for 24 months ACEM advanced training and has a strong focus on education and development of the emergency medicine, nursing and allied health workforce. We also have an active simulation training programme and established on-site links to the Auckland University regional clinical campus.

Applicants should possess full MCNZ vocational registration and FACEM or equivalent - or be within 6 months of completion at time of interview. In addition, we welcome applicants to develop or build on their areas of particular interest, such as:
- Subspeciality interests in areas of Emergency Medicine related to Hauroa a Toi population needs, i.e., Geriatric acute care, Hauora Māori focused care, acute mental health presentations.
- Participation in the education and training of Emergency Department clinical team
