Whītiki Maurea is committed to delivering holistic services to tangata whai i Te ora. This is accomplished by weaving together Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and Western clinical practice to support tangata whai i te ora and their whānau to achieve the best possible health outcomes.

Who are the ‘Lived Experience’ Advisors?
As lived experience and whanau advisors we each have our own personal lived experience of mental health and /or addiction challenges, having accessed specialist services and gained recovery/wellbeing. We collaborate with, and provide guidance to, staff and management on behalf of tāngata whai i te ora (people seeking wellness) and whānau who are currently, or have previously, engaged with Health New Zealand Waitematā Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Services
As lived experience advisers, we have first-hand knowledge of the people we represent through our own personal lived experiences. Using our own experiences, we can share with staff the impact mental health has on people’s lives.

We amplify the voices of tāngata whai i te ora and whānau to ensure that when we plan and design health services, we have the mechanisms in place to be held to account for acting on people’s feedback. People deserve better experiences and outcomes when using health services.
As Lived Experience Whanau Advisor you will -
- Work in partnership with management to support innovation, planning, policy development so the delivery of services are responsive to the needs of Whanau
- Ensure Whanau have a strong voice and engagement across all areas of Mental health and Addiction Services
- Provide Health New Zealand Waitematā with advice on service-planning and improvements by listening to people’s experiences and valuing their voices
- Ensuring that the experiences of Whanau influence every part of the organisation to improve service provision
- Identify innovations for service design, delivery or evaluation and make recommendations about implementation to the Whitiki Maurea Services leadership team
Ngā pūkenga me ngā weako - Skills and experience
- Must have your own experience of supporting a whanau member with mental health/addiction issues and their engagement with health services.
- Knowledge of issues for Family and Whānau impacted by mental/addiction distress
- Understands and committed to the principles of recovery from mental health challenges
- Understands and practices resilience and wellbeing strategies personally and at work
- Clear verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Can confidently use Microsoft suite applications
- A current NZ driver’s licence (minimum a ‘restricted’)
