Registered Nurse - Court Liaison Services

Central Auckland Careers Logo

A great opportunity for Full-Time Registered Nurses with mental health experience who enjoys working autonomously

Do you want a new direction in mental health nursing that is not in a hospital or the community? Forensic Court Liaison could be the right role for you.

We work in the courts. It's interesting, every day is different, and you interact with judges, police and lawyers who value your expertise

Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services are now recruiting three Registered Nurses to join our Forensic Court Liaison Team. As a key member of the Forensic Service, you will be working in the District Courts advising on issues related to an offender’s current mental health. This is a different and challenging role from traditional mental health nursing. You will provide mental health and risk assessment reports on offenders to Judges, Lawyers, Police and Psychiatric Consultants. You will be pivotal in diverting offenders from the Justice system into mental health.

We are a small team covering all courts from Pukekohe to Kaitaia. You will be based in either the Auckland Central or Manukau District Courts. You will be supported by other experienced Court Liaison Nurses and receive a comprehensive orientation tailored to your skills and previous experience. You will also be engaged in some triage and liaison with General Mental Health Services.

You will be appointed as a Duly Authorised Officer as it relates to the Mental Health Act after training. The DAO role attracts an extra allowance of $2700+ per annum

So, if you like to work autonomously, are confident in your verbal and written communication skills, have mental health experience and ready for a new challenge, this could be the time for a change. This is a role that is highly valued by the justice system and mental health professionals alike

Knowledge of the Mental Health Act is important. You will also become experienced and competent in the use of other legislation used in the court setting after training and support.

You will require a full NZ drivers licence

Hours of work - Monday-Friday 0800-1630 hours

Flexible hours or part time will be considered. Weekends and public holidays off.
