Expression of Interest
Pain Specialist (0.15 FTE)
About the role
The Department of Anaesthetic, in collaboration with the New Zealand Female Pelvic Mesh Service, is excited to invite expressions of interest for a Pain Specialist to join our team supporting women injured by surgical mesh.
The Mesh Service is a new national service, with two hubs across Aotearoa New Zealand. The Northern hub, hosted by Waitematā, began accepting referrals in 2023. Our growing team includes administration, Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and surgeons, and we are actively recruiting additional specialists in pain management, pelvic health physiotherapy, clinical pain psychology and social work. This is a pivotal time to join the service and contribute to its development and improvement.
The Pain Specialist will work collaboratively with patients, their whānau and the multidisciplinary team to provide advanced assessment, intervention and evaluation of pain challenges related to surgical mesh. Most patient interactions will occur in an outpatient setting, with opportunities to utilise digital health tools. There will also be occasional collaboration with the inpatient pain team for the small group of patients admitted to the public hospital for the removal of mesh and reconstructive surgery.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a current or recent experience in a pain service role.
- Demonstrate expertise in supporting clients with complex or highly complex needs.
- Possess strong skills in assessment, formulation, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention.
- Exhibit exceptional communication, flexibility, and teamwork skills.
- Be highly organised and passionate about pain management and patient care.
What We Offer
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a specialised and emerging area of healthcare. As the service grows, there is potential for an increase in FTE once ACC revenue streams are established.
If you are enthusiastic about improving outcomes for mesh-injured women and contributing to an innovative, multidisciplinary team, we encourage you to apply.
