Triage Nurse (Full-Time), Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP), Te Whatu Ora

Full time Triage Nurse position available with MHSOP community!

Permanent, Monday to Friday

This is a great opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment within a culturally diverse group of staff and client within the Counties Manukau Health area. This is a role where you will provide consult services and liaise with whaiora, whanau, primary care, aged related facilities, geriatric services, acute mental health inpatient units and adult mental health services, as well as triaging new referrals.

As a Triage Nurse, you will provide professional nursing assessments, prioritize referrals according to the urgency of need, and initiate psychiatric and medical care referrals to our service. This role will work alongside staff from Intake and Assessment, AOD and NGO specialities.

We are looking for a Registered Nurses with a depth of relevant experience and strong psychiatric nursing skills to provide consult liaison and education to non-mental health staff, and assessment and treatment of older adults. Experience and knowledge of triaging and/or older adult mental health settings would be advantageous.

This is an office based role and it is part of the Mental Health Services of Older People Team.

Essential:

  • NZ Registered Comprehensive or Psychiatric Nurse Current Annual Practicing Certificate to work in Mental Health
  • Minimum 2 years post registration experience in Mental Health
  • Extensive knowledge of mental illness and treatment interventions
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical abilities
  • Culturally competent
  • Full & Current NZ Driver’s Licence
