Senior Medical Officer, Geriatrics, Te Whatu Ora

Permanent full time position


We are currently looking for a Geriatrician to join us at Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Counties Manukau District, where our innovation and commitment to research puts us at the forefront of delivering the best healthcare services in the region.


Based at Middlemore Hospital, you will be working in a vibrant and dynamic department made up of committed health professionals who are completely engaged in the process of delivering quality care to elderly from a multicultural diverse population group. Our department has a unique Orthogeriatric team with bone density services as part of the service, providing the opportunity for learning osteoporosis management and bone density measurement related skills. We also have very comprehensive community geriatrics team, emergency geriatric service and memory team.


Inpatient teams (led by a geriatrician) are responsible for admitted patients for assessment and rehabilitation. The role involves working with & leading a multidisciplinary team as the geriatrician will be responsible for managing junior medical staff.  Conducting a bi- weekly ward round, the geriatrician will also be involved in multi-disciplinary meetings, family meetings and certain community based work. 


We are also hoping to add more geriatric support / service to the surgical teams in the future.


It is essential that you have experience working with elderly patients having multiple comorbidities. There is also a possibility of doing clinics and providing leave cover. 


As an ideal candidate you will be vocationally registered with the New Zealand Medical Council or be eligible for registration in this scope. A current Annual Practising Certificate is required prior to your start.
