Te Puaruruhau is an internationally-recognised centre of excellence in child protection practice. We are part of Starship Child Health, co-located in a multi-agency centre ( Puawaitahi) with the ADHB Family Violence Team, SHINE, “Power to Protect” (the National Shaken Baby Prevention Program), the Auckland City Police Child Protection Team and the Clinical Services Unit of Oranga Tamariki. We provide a unique service addressing the child protection needs of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children and young people and their families.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

The Senior Paediatric Social Worker is an experienced practitioner with proven clinical competence within the area of social work and works with a specific client group to provide client /family/whanau centred care within an interdisciplinary team setting.

The role is primarily clinical and includes a leadership/management component for less experienced staff. The Senior Paediatric Social Worker will hold a designated portfolio responsibility and lead clinical education and quality improvement initiatives relevant to the area of speciality.

They provide comprehensive assessment and outcome focused innovative care, applying evidence-based practice, interventions and education within the area of speciality.

 Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

As the ideal candidate you will have:

  • Extensive child protection knowledge
  • Recent experience working for Oranga Tamariki will be advantageous
  • Knowledge and expertise in the management of child protection assessments along with an interest in adolescent sexual assault.
  • A passion for working with young people and advocating for their specific needs

You will also have experience in the delivery of service which is appropriate to Maori Tamariki and Whanau who access ADHB services.

You will have a recognised Social Work qualification; you will have social work registration and a current APC and have an understanding of Tikanga Maori and the ability to apply this in practice.
