Tū Māia Regional Youth Forensics Service is searching for a passionate and experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our dedicated team. In this rewarding role, you'll play a vital part in supporting the rehabilitation and well-being of youth involved in the justice system.
Tū Māia Regional Youth Forensics Service is a specialised service dedicated to providing comprehensive forensic mental health assessments and interventions for young people involved in the justice system. Our mission is to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of young people into their communities, promoting their mental health and overall well-being. We work closely with various stakeholders, including families, schools, and community services, to ensure a holistic approach to each young person’s care.
Occupational therapy plays a crucial role in our multidisciplinary approach, focusing on enhancing the functional abilities and well-being of our young clients. As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing strategies that help youth improve their daily living skills, cope with mental health challenges, and navigate the complexities of the justice system.
• Perform detailed functional assessments, including sensory processing evaluations, to understand each youth’s unique needs and challenges
• Create comprehensive intervention plans and resource materials tailored to the individual requirements of each youth, aimed at improving their daily living skills and promoting positive coping mechanisms
· Deliver individual and group therapy sessions focused on improving daily living skills and promoting positive coping mechanisms.
• Leverage your expertise in child and adolescent mental health to inform your practice and interventions.
• Contribute to a supportive multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Prepare comprehensive reports and actively participate in case review meetings.
• When required, conduct assessments for court to inform legal decisions regarding the youth’s care and rehabilitation.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of our service, sharing your expertise and insights to enhance our impact and effectiveness

Are You the Perfect Fit?
• A registered Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 5 years’ postgraduate experience with a minimum of two years’ mental health experience.
• Advanced functional assessment skills, including sensory assessment and intervention.
• Strong clinical reasoning and intervention planning expertise.
• Experience working with children and adolescents in a mental health context.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and report writing skills.
• Commitment to bi-cultural practice and a diverse work environment.
