About the role
As an Oral Health Promoter, your primary responsibility will be to deliver community education on oral health and treatment options, working closely with patients, families, and community organisations in the South Auckland area. You will engage with Early Childhood Education (ECE) centers, churches, and other community groups, helping to raise awareness and foster better understanding of oral health. Additionally, you will coordinate treatment plans, assist patients with financial arrangements, and ensure that they have the necessary resources to take control of their oral health and wellbeing.
You will be part of a dynamic dental team, reporting to the Manager – Dental, and will be responsible for:
- Delivering oral health education through community outreach initiatives.
- Coordinating treatment plans and assisting patients with understanding their treatment options and costs.
- Building strong relationships with community groups and stakeholders to ensure ongoing engagement and education.
- Managing administrative tasks, including patient follow-ups, financial assistance coordination, and reporting.
- Working flexibly to accommodate evening and Saturday hours to engage with families and communities.
You will have:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and engage people from diverse backgrounds, particularly Pacific communities.
- Experience in community engagement, health promotion, or customer service.
- A sound understanding of Pacific cultures and values, with a passion for reducing health inequalities.
- A friendly and approachable demeanor, with the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for patients.
- Competence in basic administrative tasks, and handling financial information, including working with funding agencies like WINZ and Whanau Ora.
