Lead Community Advisor

About the Role
Reporting to the President and WMS Committee, you'll oversee the day-to-day operations of Wellington Multiple Sclerosis Society (WMS), leading a small team and ensuring people with MS, their whānau, and carers across the Wellington region receive the support, information, resources, and advocacy they need.
Over the 12-month term, you'll also assist in reviewing WMS' existing systems, processes, and policies to ensure they are relevant, fit for purpose, and support effective service delivery.
What you'll do
- Facilitate the smooth operational running of WMS
- Lead and support WMS staff, offering guidance, coaching, performance and development feedback
- Manage client caseloads while overseeing the work of other Community Advisors
- Visit clients at home or work, provide assessments, and make appropriate referrals and recommendations as needed
- Attend meetings with clients to advocate on their behalf (e.g. with employers, GPs, or Work & Income)
- Connect clients with relevant community services, support and resources
- Build strong relationships with MSNZ (national body), cluster groups, health professionals, and referral agencies
- Attend monthly WMS Committee meetings (via Teams or in person) and provide updates on relevant matters concerning the Society
- Review existing systems, processes, and policies to ensure they are relevant, fit for purpose, and support effective service delivery.
What we're looking for
- Proven experience in a Community Advisor, Health Navigator, Support Worker, Caregiver, Allied Health, or similar role
- Relevant qualification in health services or a related field
- Understanding of the NZ healthcare system and support services for independent living
- Proven people leadership skills, including coaching and developing others
- Experience in leading or managing service operations and budgets
- Committed to continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery
- Compassionate, empathetic, and sensitive to others' needs
- Able to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and handle sensitive information
- Proactive, self-motivated, reliable, and works well both independently and in a team
- Confident using Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint) and CRM databases
- Awareness of challenges faced by people with MS, mental health issues, or disabilities would be advantageous
- Understanding of the not-for-profit sector and working with volunteer boards or committees is a plus
- Hold a valid and clean NZ driver's licence
- Willing and able to travel locally and around NZ (quarterly and annually)

WMS offers a competitive salary plus 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution, phone, laptop, company car, paid supervision, and a monthly allowance to cover office expenses for the right candidate.
