About the Role
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our Te Manawa Taki regional team as Kaihāpai Oranga.
Based within community settings, the Kaihāpai Oranga role is integral to building sustainable, long-term partnerships with a range of iwi, Māori and community groups. With a dedication to seeing communities thrive, you will partner to deliver initiatives that eliminate health inequity and realise Pae Ora. This position will be confident and agile working from an iwi/ Māori systems worldview, whilst also drawing on mainstream approaches.
This role has a travel requirement across the Te Manawa Taki region.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You have lived or significant experience working alongside underserved communities (eg: Tangata Whaikaha, whānau with experience in the Justice System, rural communities, transitional housing, LGBTQIA+). You are an acknowledged contributor to iwi and Māori communities and can demonstrate willingness, and ability, to build constructive/effective relationships with iwi and Māori communities and other stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
- Passion for local tikanga, Te Reo Māori, history and stories and/or a willingness to develop this
- Established relationships with iwi and hapū in the area you will be working
- Demonstrated understanding of practices in health promotion, health protection, and disease prevention
- Technology skills and a willingness to learn new systems
- Excellent written communication skills
- A commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and anti-racism practice
- New Zealand Drivers' Licence
- Willingness to travel across the region
- Demonstrate the highest standards of personal, and professional behaviour
