Rural Endoscopist

About the Role
Following the successful implementation of the National Bowel Screening program in Northland, Kaitaia Hospital is seeking an endoscopist to join Te Whatu Ora, Te Tai Tokerau. This is a full-time permanent position with no on call or general medicine duties. We are seeking someone with a drive for excellence and a heart for rural healthcare. In this role, you will perform a variety of endoscopic procedures with precision and care, helping to diagnose and treat patients with gastrointestinal disorders. From colonoscopies to upper endoscopies, your expertise will be vital in improving the health and well-being of our community.
You will be joining the growing endoscopy department in Te Tai Tokerau which has suites in both Whangarei and Kaitaia. There are currently 4 gastroenterologists based in Whangarei who also perform endoscopy in Kaitaia. The successful candidate will enjoy collegial relationships with the surgical team and would work across the sites. We encourage self-development and are willing to offer a session weekly to pursue your sub-specialty interests. This could include time to develop new skills such as advanced polyp removal, bowel screening or develop a research interest. This will require approval by the clinical lead.

About you
To be considered you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine or Surgical Vocational scope of practice.
You will Ideally hold FRACP or FRACS or equivalent qualification and have NZ committee or equivalent body certified independent competency in gastroscopy and colonoscopy with proven experience in endoscopic procedures. We are open to hearing from advanced trainees nearing completion of their training.
